Biosafety Cabinet
Biosafety Cabinets are designed to meet most demanding biological applications. These cabinets are useful where personal, product and environment protection is necessary. They help in containing unwanted, dangerous and infectious agents. The air flow system they follow is 70% air recirculation and 30% air exhaust. A well manufactured Biosafety cabinet helps in protecting the user, the test object as well as the surrounding environment from getting contaminated. This is done using 3 basic steps:
1. CLEAN AIR CIRCULATION: Clean air is circulated within the cabinet. Air is filtered through HEPA filters. The air flow system flow 70% recirculation and 30% exhaust.
2. SANITIZATION: To clean up micro-organisms on the surface of the work area. Two additional steps are taken:
a. UV light is turned on for a duration of around 15 minutes.
b. Final sanitization is done using alcohol based sanitizer.
3. SAFETY: While working on the pathogens, chemicals: the sash door(made of acryllic sheet) should be lowered atleast by 50% to prevent minimum with outside environment.

A LCD control panel is fitted at front which displays air flow pressure, UV and LED light conditions, door open or close etc. These are low noise cabinets and the level remains between 65 to 70 db.

Biosafety Cabinet Diagram & Important Parts
The important parts of a Biosafety Cabinet are listed below:
1. Sash Door: These help the user to protect himself from inhaling or accidentally spilling the chemicals/pathogens or other harmful test products on themselves.
2. UV Light: UV lights are used to sanitize the area and eliminate micro-organics from the work space.
3. Fluorescent Light: It is used to illuminate the work area for clear visibility during testing.
4. HEPA Filter: These are used to filter air before it comes in contact with test material within the chamber.
5. Pressure Manometer: It shows the current pressure of the circulating air within the work chamber.
7. Controller: These are used to turn on and off and manage the timing of UV, fluorescent lights and fan.
8. Blower: It blows the re-circulated air with a mix of filtered air in the work area.
9. Exhaust: The discarded air exits the cabinet through the exahust pipe on top.
